Based in New York City, Mid-Level Giving Officer I qualifies, solicits, stewards, and cultivates, individuals, couples, and families who partner financially with Earthjustice. This position will manage a regional portfolio of 150-250 Mid-Level giving donors, called Justice Partners.
Justice Partners, donors who give $1,000 - $35,000 annually to Earthjustice, are passionate and engaged supporters of Earthjustice’s mission. This position will coordinate donor outreach by phone, video calls, and email to determine their interest in two-way engagement, inclination and capacity to make a major or planned gift, programmatic and philanthropic priorities, and manage their relationship with the organization. The Officer will be responsible for an eventual direct solicitation goal of $500,000 per year. Meeting this fundraising goal includes upgrades to major gifts. Some travel will be required to attend Justice Partners events, donor meetings, and other engagement opportunities, as well as professional and/or organizational meetings, trainings, and conferences.
The Mid-Level Giving Officer I builds constructive and effective relationships within the development team and across the organization and contributes to the overall positive working environment. This position reports to the Deputy Director, Outreach and Membership Services.
This is a non-supervisory position.
The Mid-Level Giving Officer is expected to work a full-time (37.5 hours/week) schedule, and may work hybrid or remote from the following location: New York, New York.
What You'll Do
Donor Qualification, Solicitation, and Stewardship (80%)
- Manages a portfolio of 150-250 Mid-Level donors and prospects; develop strategies and implement plans for qualifying, cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting those donors. Responsible for meeting revenue, solicitation, visit, and outreach goals set forth in annual work plan each year with an ultimate annual fundraising goal of $500,000. Meeting this fundraising goal includes upgrades to major gifts.
- Identify planned giving opportunities and partner with planned giving officers to solicit and close bequest, asset, and life income gifts.
- Builds relationships with donors through virtual and in person visits and other engagement opportunities.
Analysis and Data Management (10%)
- Tracks opportunities, plan notes, call notes and responses, contact attempts, communications preferences, and interests in donor database.
- Attends trainings and actively learns databases, systems, and other technology used by the Development department and Earthjustice to ensure effective collaboration, communication, and efficiency.
- Remains apprised of trends in philanthropy and Earthjustice’s programmatic work.
Collaboration (10%)
- Promotes team cohesion and a positive workplace culture by taking part in team, department, office, and organization wide meetings, trainings, skills sharing, and events
- Collaborates with Development Operations Team and Deputy Director, Outreach and Membership Services on donor data, data analysis, metrics, and portfolio recommendations
- Attends gift officer meetings across teams for assigned regional territory to personalize donor engagement strategy and portfolio qualification with colleagues in principal, major and planned giving.

What You'll Bring
- 5-7 years of direct experience in nonprofit fundraising and/or membership programs with a focus on engaging and soliciting donors making gifts in the 4-6 figure range
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing fundraising initiatives including personalized cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation strategies
- Ability to manage both a robust portfolio and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills that you leverage to build strong relationships with donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff
- Experience understanding, synthesizing, and communicating complex information in a clear and compelling manner
- Experience with donor databases and fundraising systems
- Ability to accurately assess situations with informal or incomplete information and make good decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment; maintain confidentiality
- Bachelor’s degree or related experience

- Travel to attend donor meetings, donor events, staff meetings, and trainings
Salary and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary and excellent, comprehensive benefits. We also offer a casual and congenial work environment.Salaries at Earthjustice are determined by working location and are commensurate with the experience required. The annual salary range for this role in New York, New York is $99,500 – $110,500.
